We went to the library today to find out exactly what a manifesto was and to research some information to include in our manifesto. i found out about hypersurface and cyborg theatre.

Hypersurface is where both the real and virtual world meet. it's simultaneously real and representation and it's benefits are that you can' enter the work of art, be part of it as well as interact with it.' in other words it's a liminal space so the viewer can have a double presence. they can be in both the real and virtual worlds simultaneously and modify one through the other. the reason that it's successful in performance is that the audience member enters a world of simulation whilst maintaining a rapport with their own environment. 'it's not immersive but it simulates emersiveness.'

cyborg theatre uses cybernetics as part of it's method and practice. enmeshing the human with the environment in the simulated world of the world wide web. 'it takes place through and on the body of the performer. where the body itself becomes both the laboratory and the theatre of the piece.' it allow the audience the possibility of not only enter the piece but become one with the performers body.

Lowri and I looked through the manifesto book and found it to be little help but we believe a manifesto is basically a detailed argument for or against a topic that is used to inform and persuade. Lowri and I decided to write half each and read what our own words.

We have decided to film the footage of the miner on a camera phone as if a passerby has shot it. our reasoning is that it will illustrate just how easy it is to record and transmit information in the digital age.

Also today we wrote our script- the basic outline of which was the presenter would interview the miner about his experience underground then the interviewer would ask some question via email and the miner would ask what an email was- which would then lead onto a discussion of what the Internet does and it's function- then we will go to our pre-recorded manifesto as if it was a news report. i suggested that we should do our manifesto about virtual theatre and that we should argue for it's inclusion of digital technology as we both new quite a bit about that anyway.

Lowri came up with the idea of using a welsh miner (She luckily already has the accent) who had been trapped in a mine and had missed out on forty years of our country's evolution but still had the basic knowledge of what a computer was. we then discussed ways to successfully move from prerecorded footage and live action and we thought the format of a news show would enable us to do that. we decide we wanted to use you tube, emails, web cams and camera phones to illustrate how easy it is to record, transmit and access information now.

Lowri and I decided that the animation would be unfeasible to achieve in our time frame so we discussed our idea for using a character who doesn't understand the Internet with Ian. He suggested that we use an historical character which initially seemed a good idea but we realised that the use of an historical character would mean to much explanation of the basics (such as electricity and computers) before we could move onto the topics we wanted to discuss.

We also played with the idea of using the website http://secondlife.com/ to create digital versions of ourselves and having our presentation take place entirely in the digital domain but it was decided that we wanted to interchange between both real and virtual world.

ideas for presentation performance!

1. interaction between Lowri and me - animation.

One of has is an angel and the other one has a devil. They would sit on on our shoulders like our consciences. During the presentation we would interact with the 2 dimensional digital character so we could interact with the virtual world via the real world. The angel argues the good points of Internet and the devil argues the negatives of the Internet.

Includes slide show links of Internet pages;
Good- Facebook for communication
Bad- Facebook is used for bullying.

Issues raised with this idea
-it would be difficult to integrate information about theatre.
-not only would we have to produce a digital animation but interacting with the character's would be very difficult to achieve.

2. Lowri plays a character who does not understand the Internet i explain to her what it does and how it benefits us but also some of it's disadvantages.

Issues raised with this idea
-not very inventive, too simplistic.
-again it does not included any idea of theatre and performance.

it's because i'm cool? (ironic or not!?!)

what is cool? this week i was thinking about the concept of cool and what it means to me and others around me. my new boyfriend loves the word cool as a comeback. he says 'it's because I'm cool' as a retort to any piece of joking banter i put his way- I'm not sure whether it's because he can't think of anything better to say or because he thinks that it's witty. either way i find it amusing, although it may wear thin with time. my housemates- as i have previously mentioned are quite geeky but i think they are cool, because they are funny and clever although to many being clever is the last thing that's cool in their minds.

What do i think is cool?
Well I'm a big fan of art and electronic music. i have a new favourite song that has a cool vid for it. it's called 'Shut me up' by mindless self indulgence. I'll post it under things i like in a sec. what else? well i think Simon Pegg is cool, and Alan Wilder( formally of Depeche Mode) because he's very sure of himself and pleasant mannered but he also has a dark quality to his personality that comes out in his music, which i also think is cool. it's called recoil and it's very unusual.

my first entry!

This is just like a diary i suppose, only not quite so private. i started a fresh one because i wanted to re-affirm the lessons i learnt in the lesson. what have i been doing? well my nerdy housemate has been trying to make me draw a comic from my imagination. he only just discovered i could draw and the he was curious to see if i could do anything but copy. i was never much good at it when i was a kid so i gave up trying really- i just stuck to coping photos and paintings. i am better than i thought i would be i imagining although the character i drew has a serious resemblance to wonder woman.

This week i also bought a perfume called diesel fuel for life- it's the men's version although i prefer it. the smell makes me feel slightly light headed, in a good way!

sweet dreams!

We have decided to record a video of the miner coming out of a colapased mine on a camera phone as if a passerby has recorded the footage and show this as if it were a current news story about a colapsed mine. With this we hope to show we have an understanding of digital performance.

We wrote the script for the presentation today and weve tried to make it humorous in the hope that it will entertain our audience.
